6 Days Rwanda Primates & Wildlife Safari

A city tour in Kigali introduces you to this beautiful country.  Game drives in Akagera is a chance to see numerous wild animals including Zebras, Giraffes, Hippos, Rhinos, Elephants, Lions, Buffalos and, many more others. This safari starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda.

Safari Day by day

Day 1: Pick up – Kigali city tour & transfer to Akagera National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali International airport, meet and greet your safari river guide who will briefly take you through the flow of the itinerary. Thereafter, go for a city in Kigali to explore and enjoy the beauty and cleanness of this small city. Kigali city is ranked as the cleanest and organized city in Africa.

Visit a few tourist destinations in Kigali such as the Kigali genocide memorial site, Inemo art gallery, Kigali Convention Centre and Kimironko market among others. You shall have lunch in the city and thereafter drive Easter wards to Akagera National park, home to the big five game. 

Day 2: Game viewing & Boat cruise

This is a great ay to see the big five and many more wild animals. You will wakeup very early and go for morning game drives in the open savannahs. Akagera National park has a high concentration of wild animals which include the big five game (Buffalos, Rhinos, Elephants, Lions and Leopards) plus many more animals which include Elands, Topis, Oribis, Giraffes, Waterbucks, Warthogs, Duikers, Impalas, and Bushbucks among others. Return to the lodge for late breakfast and chill as you wait for hot lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise which offers you great views of the lake, game park and birds on the shores of the Lake. Look out for crocodiles and monitoring Lizards normally seen resting lazily on the lakeshores

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Today enjoy your morning sleep and wakeup for a relaxed breakfast. Thereafter, embark on a drive to Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy a scenic drive overlooking the beautiful rolling hills of Rwanda, tea plantations, local communities and the Virunga volcanoes.  In the evening, chill and relax at the lodge as you wait for your next big day.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking

Finally the great day for trekking gorillas is here! Today you wakeup very early, have a hot cup of coffee and with your packed lunch drive to Kinigi Park headquarters for a pre gorilla trekking briefing about the dos and don’ts when with the gorillas. Each group of eight travelers is allocated a gorilla family to visit and 2 armed park rangers to escort you through the jungle.

The trek to see gorillas starts at 8:00am. Transfer to the starting point and start up this adventure, which lasts for between 2 to 6 hours hiking up and down hill. The allowed time with the gorillas is strictly an hour counted from the time you meet them.

Enjoy tis magical hour with the endangered species, takes as many pictures as you want and embrace the human like characters of gorillas. Hiking through Volcanoes National park also gives you chance to met other wild animals in the park such as golden monkeys and baboons.

Day 5: Golden Monkey trekking/Dian Fossey hike – Ibyiiwacu cultural village

Today you have optional Golden Monkey trekking or Dian Fossey graveyard hike. Wakeup early, have breakfast and transfer to Kinigi Park headquarters for registration and briefing.

Choose to either trek the endangered lively golden monkeys whose encounter is really amazing. Alternatively, hike to the graveyard of Dian Fossey, an American Primatologist who lost her life to poachers in her campaign to save the endangered gorillas, which were at the verge of extinction.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village to learn and experience Rwanda’s traditions, norms and cultures.  Enjoy and take part in traditional dances and other local practices which make you part of the community, the experience you will never forget.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali

This is the last day of our 6 Days Rwanda safari. Depending on the time of your return flight, have a relaxed morning at the lodge, enjoy the sunset rise in the forest and how morning dew disappears slowly as sun breaks through.
