Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Masai Mara
Meet and greet your Kenya tour leader after breakfast at the hotel in Nairobi. Later, he or she will take you through what you should expect on your 6 days Masai Mara & Rwanda gorilla safari.
You will then drive 5-6 hours to Masai Mara National Reserve via Maasai Communities. Arrive early and have enjoyable lunch then engage in an evening game viewing with expectations to sight leopards, wildebeests, giraffes, gazelles, birds, elephants, zebras and others.
Day 2: Full day game drive
After breakfast, be part of a game drive experience in your 4×4 drive vehicle with pop-up roof for you to enjoy sight of elephants, rhinos, wildebeests, birds and a lot more. Have lunch break and get back to the wild to spot out several more wildlife with a chance to witness the gigantic wildebeest migration. Dine and a comfortable stay in your lodge you booked.
Day 3: Drive from Masai Mara to Nairobi then to Kigali
Have a heavy breakfast and later, go for game drive early in the morning to catch up with early morning risers. After, proceed to Nairobi where you take an evening flight to Kigali Airport.
Day 4: Kigali city tour – connect to Volcanoes National Park, Ruhengeri
Get up early in the morning for your breakfast and after, participate in an exciting Kigali city expedition. Kigali capital city is full of wonders but most importantly, expect to visit Gisozi genocide memorial centre, local markets among other museums.
Lunch break in a hotel then drive 2-3 hours via countryside characterized by rolling hills to Volcanoes National Park in Northwestern Rwanda.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking
Begin your day with a leisurely breakfast and have your packed snacks, bottled water ready then report to Kinigi offices for briefing on gorilla rules and regulations. Today, you will be put into 8 people to track one gorilla family with park guide onlead. This experience covers 2-6 hours but this varies based on location of gorillas, your speed of hiking among other factors.
A maximum of 1 hour is what you will have for taking pictures and enjoying a close interaction with gorillas. Get back to your respective lodge to share your memories and you may visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural trip.
Day 6: Ruhengeri back to Kigali-departure
Drive back from Volcanoes National Park to Kigali after breakfast and checking out of the lodge. This marks the end of your wildlife and gorilla tour.
